Water & Land Health
From the ground up, EWI’s Water & Land Health Program restores healthy stream and upland ecosystems by reconnecting landowners and communities to stewardship values and practices. The Water & Land Health program creates EcoWise Communities by:
- Establishing model restoration sites that demonstrate bio-technical solutions and inspire people to connect to the land
- Building Community Stewardship Teams to monitor restoration progress and engage local citizens
- Replicating the successes of restoration work throughout the region, with the initiative of Community Stewardship Teams
Water & Land Health Activities
- Stream, wetland, and upland assessments, restoration project design, and supervision of project implementation
- Field monitoring of restoration sites in collaboration with students and landowners
- Fee-for-service Landscape Management Services projects
- Community education about the local ecosystem and useful restoration strategies
- Team development for monitoring the health of natural areas and restoration sites
- Workforce training to provide career opportunities for local youth
- Policy and planning initiatives to ensure community involvement and agreement
