4C: The Climate Change Conservation Corps

Projects – 4C

The 4C Design Corps is up and running! Margaret Montaño and Dana Richards are joined by 3 Mentors and 12 Corps members to form this exciting new team.  Corps members and mentors are ages 17-30 and come from Santa Fe Indian School, the Indian Arts Institute of America, Monte del Sol Charter School, Northern New Mexico Community College, Peñasco, Española,  Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

We completed a two day orientation and team building retreat, graciously hosted by the Wind River Ranch on November 1st and 2nd.

Next up on our schedule is a presentation at the Bosque School’s Green Trails conference on November 12th, a presentation at the Earth Works 15th anniversary celebration on November 15th and an Ecological Footprint Audit of the Fortaleze Coyote building on 2nd Street in Santa Fe on November 22nd.

The 4C Design Corps will undertake 5 more service projects during 2009 to build capacity and partnerships in the fields of local agriculture, water harvesting, ecological restoration, green building, renewable energy systems and education/community mobilization.

4C will be hiring 7-10 corps members for 20-32 hours per week for a new corps in 2009. Interviews will begin in February of 2009.  Young adults, ages 17-25, are encouraged to inquire to the Earth Works Institute at any time until positions are filled.  The 2009 4C: Climate Change Conservation Corps will help build outdoor classrooms and edible schoolyards at local schools, conduct resource audits, restore critical wildlands and enhance wildlife and native flora in the Galisteo Basin and other watersheds.  If you want take a big step toward green service and a green career, this could be the catalyst you’ve been hoping for.

The 4C: Climate Change Conservation Corps is supported by generous contributions from the McCune Charitable Trust, the SB Foundation, the Sierra Club Climate Protection program, Bread for the Journey and the Youth Conservation Corps.
