Eco Planning & Policy
EWI’s Eco Planning & Policy Program promotes the establishment of regulatory and financial programs that serve as incentives for community-based stewardship of land and natural resources. From the ground up, the program brings together a broad spectrum of stakeholders to share view points and propose viable policy decisions that support EcoWise Communities.
Eco Planning & Policy Activities
Conduct applied research, planning, and policy development work on topics regarding:
- County growth management,
- open space conservation,
- community based land stewardship,
- local water governance,
- landscape-wide stream and wetland restoration,
- wildlife corridor and habitat management, and
- outdoor education.
Publish policy & planning documents, such as:
- Watershed Restoration Action Strategy (WRAS) for the Galisteo Watershed (2005)
- Wetland Assessment and Plan for the Galisteo Watershed (2006)
- Green Infrastructure Plan for the Galisteo Watershed (2008)
- Consumer Guide to Advanced Wastewater Treatment Systems (2008)
- Incentives for Water Conservation in the Santa Fe Area (2008)
- Work is underway for a Wetlands Action Plan (WAP) for the Galisteo Watershed as well as a WAP for Santa Fe County, New Mexico.
Establish networks for public dialogue and information exchange between public and private entities
Organize community-based coalitions for land stewardship
Participate in No Child Left Inside initiatives
Organize local, grassroots input in local ordinances and state or federal legislation.
