4C: The Climate Change Conservation Corps
From the ground up, the Climate Change Conservation Corps or 4C, provides service-oriented training to young adults ready to explore 5 green career pathways:
- Natural Resource Health,
- Green Planning, Architecture and Building,
- Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Systems,
- Organic Food Production and Local Food Security
- Education and Community Mobilization.
4C team members get dirty, build green, restore degraded land and create healthy communities committed to EcoWise living!
4C Activities
- Team-building retreats to build the confidence, character and capacity of each 4C member
- Training and work in each of the 5 Green Career Pathways
- Community education that catalyzes EcoWise behavior and increases the demand for green products and services
- Peer-to-peer education in high schools to introduce more youth to green lifestyles and careers
- Community college courses for key concepts, skills and transferable academic credits
- One-on-one tutoring and counseling for individual members to guarantee their success
- Internships with local organizations to provide hands-on experience in green career pathways
4C Projects
- Collaboration with Pritzlaff Ranch
- La Tierra Camp collaboration
- Collaboration with Sustainable Technology Center and teaching courses on climate change and food security at Santa Fe Community College
- Implementation of Sierra Club Climate Protection program
- Resource audits at nonprofit facilities and public schools
- Construction of outdoor classrooms and edible schoolyards
- Collaboration with Sacred Power, Sundancer Creations and other green businesses
- Contributions to Institute of American Indian Arts sustainability project

4C Outcomes
- 4C will help provide quality jobs and higher education to local youth of all backgrounds
- 4C members will provide both skilled labor and community leadership in the 5 Green Career Pathways
- 4C members will undertake vocational training or pursue college degrees for careers that directly or indirectly address climate change
- 4C members will understand the impact humans have on the environment, and make responsible personal decisions that benefit the community and the environment
